 Dental treatment can be extremely stressful for children of all ages. Dr. Heck and her staff make every effort to make your child’s dental experience as comfortable as possible. We offer nitrous oxide sedation. Nitrous oxide, which is commonly referred to as “laughing gas,” is perfectly safe with very few side effects. Nitrous oxide will leave your child’s system within 5 to 10 minutes after the end of the procedure. This allows your child to return to school after the appointment. If the child is extremely apprehensive we can prescribe oral Valium in addition to the nitrous oxide. Valium is perfectly safe and we have never seen an adverse reaction to the properly recommended dosage. The Valium will stay in your child’s system for 12-24 hours. If your child is pre-medicated with Valium we instruct you to monitor their behavior for the next 24 hours and avoid any physical activities. |
